MORNING ETHICS WORKSHOP - 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Child and Elder Abuse: Clinical, Ethical and Legal Issues

Session Description: Many mental health clinicians have questions concerning their reporting obligations related to child and elder abuse and/or neglect. What is mandatory reporting in Colorado? In what situations are we required to make reports, and in what situations should we maintain confidentiality? What is the reporting process? How much and what information is required? The CPA Ethics Committee along with two professionals from the City and County of Denver’s Department of Human Services in the Division of Child Welfare and Adult Protection (Stephen DiGiacomo of Child Protective Services, and Whitney Nettleton of Adult Protective Services) will guide our understanding of these important and sensitive issues. Vignettes of clinical cases will be discussed with guidance provided by our presenters.
