SAMD EVENT: Film presentation- Being Muslim in America: Acts of Courage and Healing

This film, inspired by the Kahn “Gold Star” family who first appeared at the 2016 DNC Convention, is designed to provide an opportunity for education, discussion and connection around important topics related to diversity and multiculturalism.  Specifically, it chronicles the personal histories of six area Muslims as they struggle with issues of Islamophobia. The goal of this film as stated by the co-producers, Mary Ann Watson, Ph.D. and Christine Sheikh, Ph.D., is to help us “understand and appreciate differences in religions and cultures as well as to experience more directly the similarities of the human experience worldwide.”

Please join the co-producers, Drs. Mary Ann Watson and Christine Sheikh, in a discussion of how we as mental health professionals can become better acquainted with our Muslim community as we expand our knowledge base to become more competent mental health providers.

(Dr. Watson would like to extend a special thank you to Videographer Scott Houck, M.A. for his tireless work and dedication to detail in the making of this film.)
