The Holistic Impact of COVID on Healthcare Workers and How to Support Resilience

Overview: The world is experiencing an unprecedented collective event resulting in unique medical, psychological, and economic implications. Dr. Wolfington will discuss the psychological impact of quarantine, as well as current clinical presentations of COVID-19 anxiety specific to workers within a healthcare system. Dr. Wolfington will focus on both risk and protective factors associated with mental wellness during and following quarantine. Dr. Wolfington has been embedded in Vail Health’s COVID-19 incident command since January 2020. We will also discuss Eagle County (which is a current COVID-19 hot zone)’s strategy to support behavioral health workers and first responders.

3. List 2 protective factors that enhance resilience both during and after quarantine

Speaker: Dr. Casey Wolfington

 Dr. Casey Wolfington is a Licensed Psychologist and the Community Behavioral Health Director with Eagle Valley Behavioral Health, an outreach of Vail Health. Dr. Wolfington has been embedded as part of incident command with Vail Health’s COVID response since January 2020 and leads behavioral health efforts across Eagle County both for internal healthcare workforce and for the community at large. Dr. Wolfington has been on the forefront of behavioral health workforce development strategies in rural Colorado for the past twelve years. Dr. Wolfington also is a founder in the development of the Colorado Psychology Internship Consortium (COPIC). COPIC is only APA accredited internship consortium in rural Colorado. As of 2018, over 43 masters and doctoral students have completed their clinical training through Dr. Wolfington’s behavioral health training programs and under her supervision.
